Welcome! You've been invited to Wheatflix 2.0, a personal Plex media server loaded with Movies, TV Shows, Anime, and Music. This guide will walk you through everything you need to get set up β from creating a Plex account to watching your first movie. Follow along step by step and you'll be streaming in no time. No IT degree required. π
Before you can access Wheatflix 2.0, you'll need a free Plex account. Think of it like creating a Netflix account, except Plex itself is free and the good stuff (my server) is already paid for.

Open a web browser on your phone or computer and go to plex.tv
Click the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner
You can sign up with your Google, Facebook, or Apple account β or just use an email and password
π‘ Tip: Use an email address you actually check. Your server invitation will be sent there!
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your account setup
Plex may try to walk you through setting up your own server β you can skip all of that. You're joining mine, not starting your own.
Once your account is created, check the email address you used to sign up. You should have an invitation email from Plex on behalf of Wheatflix 2.0.

Open the invitation email β the subject line will say something like "[Name] invited you to their Plex server"
Click the big "Accept Invitation" button inside the email
This will open Plex in your browser β if prompted, sign in to the Plex account you just created
You should now see a confirmation that you've been added to Wheatflix 2.0 π
β οΈ Didn't get the email? Check your spam/junk folder. If it's not there, let me know and I'll resend the invite.
At this point your account is connected to the server. Now let's get the app installed on your device.
Great question. Not all Plex apps are created equal. Here's the ranking from best to "well, it works":
| Rank | Device | Why |
|---|---|---|
| π₯ 1st | Apple TV 4K | Best performance, smoothest UI, full Dolby Vision & Atmos support, fewest issues |
| π₯ 2nd | Amazon Fire Stick 4K Max | Excellent performance, great codec support, very affordable |
| π₯ 3rd | Roku | Solid and reliable, though slightly less smooth than the top two |
| 4th | Built-in Smart TV App | Convenient but often outdated, slower, and more limited codec support |
| 5th | iPhone / iPad | Great for on-the-go watching |
| 6th | Android Phone / Tablet | Also great for mobile viewing |
| 7th | Windows PC | Works well via browser or app |
| 8th | Mac | Same as Windows |
π‘ The short version: If you're watching on your TV, use a dedicated streaming device if you have one. Your TV's built-in app is the last resort β it's like using Internet Explorer in 2025. It'll work, but you'll feel it.
The Apple TV 4K is the gold standard for Plex. It handles nearly every video and audio format natively, meaning your content plays exactly as intended β including Dolby Vision HDR and lossless audio β without the server having to do extra work.

The Fire Stick 4K Max is an excellent second choice. It supports a wide range of codecs and gives you a very smooth Plex experience at a fraction of the cost of an Apple TV.

Roku is reliable and gets the job done. The interface is a little more basic, but it's a perfectly capable Plex experience.
On your Roku home screen, scroll to the Streaming Channels section and select "Search Channels"
π‘ Alternatively, press the Home button and navigate to "Streaming Channels" β "Search Channels"
Search for "Plex"
Select Plex and click "Add Channel" (it's free)
Once added, open the Plex channel
Select "Sign In"
A code will be shown on screen
On your phone or computer, go to plex.tv/link
Sign in and enter the code
Your Roku will connect and Wheatflix 2.0 will be available
β You're in! Continue to Step 4.
If you don't have a dedicated streaming device, your Smart TV may have a Plex app built in. Samsung and LG are the most common. It works, but keep in mind that built-in TV apps tend to be older, slower, and may not support all video formats β which means the server has to work harder to convert the video on the fly. But hey, it beats not watching anything at all.

Perfect for watching on the go β on the bus, in bed, pretending to work during a meeting, the usual.
β οΈ Heads up: The Plex iOS app is free to download, but some features (like downloading content for offline viewing) require a Plex Pass subscription. Basic streaming from the server is free.

Same great experience as iOS, just on Android.

You can use Plex directly in your browser, or install the desktop app for a slightly better experience.

By default, Plex is a bit... cluttered. It'll show you a bunch of its own free content (ad-supported movies, live TV channels, etc.) right alongside my server content. We're going to fix that so that all you see is Wheatflix 2.0's libraries.
π Note: These steps are done in the Plex web app at app.plex.tv or the desktop app. The mobile and TV apps will reflect your changes automatically afterward.
This makes your content easy to find from the home screen.
Now let's get rid of the stuff you didn't ask for. In the left sidebar you'll likely see sections like:
To unpin/remove these:
In the left sidebar, hover over each of these items
A pin icon will appear β if it's already pinned (highlighted/solid), click it to unpin it
Alternatively, click the pencil/edit icon at the very bottom of the left sidebar (it may say "Manage Sidebar" or similar)
From the sidebar manager, toggle off everything that isn't one of your four Wheatflix 2.0 libraries
π‘ What to turn off: Anything that says "Plex," "Live TV," "Movies on Plex," "News," "Sports," "Discover," or "Watchlist." If it's not Movies, TV Shows, Anime, or Music from Wheatflix 2.0, unpin it.
Even after pinning the right libraries, your Plex home screen may still show rows of Plex's own content. Let's clean that up too.
π Your Plex home screen should now be clean and only show content from Wheatflix 2.0. Much better.
Don't see something you want to watch? No problem β you can request it! Wheatflix 2.0 uses Seer, a content request platform that lets you search for movies and TV shows and submit a request directly to me.
βΉοΈ A few things to know:
- There are no request limits β go wild (within reason)
- Content is added at 1080p maximum quality
- All requests go through my approval before anything is downloaded β so please be patient!
- Please don't request live sports, news broadcasts, or anything you'd normally watch live. This is a library, not a live TV service.
Open your browser and go to request.wheatflix.ca
Click "Sign In" and choose "Sign In with Plex"
This uses your existing Plex account β no new account needed!
Authorize the connection when prompted
You're now on the Seer dashboard β it'll look something like this:
Use the search bar at the top to search for a movie or TV show
Click on the result you want
Click the "Request" button
For TV shows, you'll be asked which seasons you want β select what you need
Hit "Request" to confirm β you're done!
β±οΈ Patience is a virtue. Requests are usually processed within 24β48 hours. If something has been pending longer than that, feel free to give me a nudge.
Q: I can't find Wheatflix 2.0 in the app after signing in.
A: Make sure you accepted the invitation email first (Step 2). If you did, try signing out of the app and back in. Still not showing? Reach out and I'll check your access.
Q: The video is buffering or stuttering a lot.
A: This usually means your internet connection is struggling to keep up, or the server is busy converting the video for your device. Try a lower quality setting: tap the Settings icon during playback and reduce the quality to 720p or 1080p (if you're already at a higher setting).
Q: I'm seeing subtitles I didn't ask for / can't find subtitles.
A: Tap the speech bubble icon during playback to toggle subtitles on or off. You can choose different subtitle tracks from that menu.
Q: The video quality looks bad / blurry.
A: Make sure your quality setting is set to "Maximum" or "Original". In the app, go to Settings β Video Quality and bump it up.
Q: Can I download content to watch offline?
A: Yes β but this requires a Plex Pass subscription on your account. My server supports it, but you'd need your own Plex Pass to use the download feature.
Q: I requested something but it's been more than 48 hours with no update.
A: Some content takes longer depending on availability. If it's been a few days, feel free to message me directly.
